Grand Novel Budapest in public spaces of the capital city
As we have already announced, Grand Budapest Novel, a community creation of 23 chapters celebrating the 150 years of Budapest, will not get stuck in the two-dimensional world of paper and words – the chapters will manifest in the reality of inter-artistic interpretations.
The passages of the book published in November 2023 will be brought to life in cultural and public spaces by renowned performers. The series of programmes started in the 9th District with the first title Elosztó (Divider), and with the contribution of Zsófi Kocsonya and Anna Szepes. The next episode was Emberöltő (Generation), an interpretation of the chapter of Grand Novel Budapest titled Egymást néző házak (Houses Looking At Each Other) written by Gabriella Nagy, which started in a gallery on Bartók Béla Boulevard and travelled all the way to Gellért Hill. The production came to life with the support of Nézőművészeti Kft. In the 8th District, Edina Szvoren’s text, Titkos és Általános (Secret and General), manifested as a performative fashion show, Egyenlően állunk (We Stand Equal), with Sára Aczél and Judit Bárány as directors.
The performances are truly trying to push against the boundaries – and they will continue in the other districts as well.
